Our summer internship with TEMPOLABS just wrapped up, and we couldn't be prouder of our members' achievements alongside our client partner!
Within just six months, over 60% of you secured full-time offers, with three of you landing positions at major tech companies! It’s amazing to think that for many of you, regardless if Tempo was your first professional experience or you have had some solid years under your belt, all benefited from the crazy hours of hard work our team put in. Kudos to everyone!
We also can not be more happy and proud with our partner tempo! In the past, UXGO has partnered with numerous Y Combinator (YC) clients and alumni, yet TempoLabs truly still stood out as a remarkable collaborator for our 2024 spring and summer cohorts. If you are struggling with getting work experience in the world of UX, we hope this story can help you understand how we beat this paradox called catch 22 - which is needing work experience to get work experience.
If you’re new here, you might be wondering so how do we beat that? Well our advanced class internship should give you a good idea: what exactly is our Advanced Class Internship? Is it a course? An internship? How does it all work? Let’s break it down.
At UXGO, we’ve perfected an innovative model that has been the cornerstone of our member's job hunting success for the past five years, we call it the 10-Week Advanced Class Internship. The goal is to use this to beat catch 22 - Here’s how it works:
This hands-on experience and an impressive internship to boast on their resumes has been a game changer. For example, let's look at why we selected tempo!
Tempo was founded by Kevin and Peter, who were also key players in the success of Perpetua, a company that exited for a whopping $150 million! The duo was even featured in Forbes' 30 Under 30 for consumer tech—a massive achievement. At the time of our partnership, Tempo was fresh out of YC’s S23 batch and eager to make waves.
After some initial meetings with our coach director from Google, Microsoft, & Meta, we identified core project areas to tackle: the Core Editor and Marketplace. We then interview around 100 students and pick close to 20 to join our cohort. Usually there are 4 teams of 5, supporting a few different clients & projects, these students are led by a total of 10 big-tech coaches to support these initiatives. We do not judge you by past experience, we only evaluate your commitment and potential, since you are joining this course to learn!
Curious what these teams worked on for Tempo? Take a look below at 3 teams:
1. Jan - March Core Editor: Our team dove deep into creating a streamlined, intuitive experience for users (See before and after below at the end of the article)
2. March - June Marketplace: We focused on building a robust, user-friendly platform for creators and consumers alike. (0-1)
3. June - Sep AI Agent Product Management: This was an exciting project where our teams explored cutting-edge AI solutions to enhance Tempo’s product offerings.(0-1)
It’s incredibly rewarding to see our team members from each of these batches excel in their careers, interviewing at top companies like Google and Palantir, and presenting their projects with confidence. Navigating complex use cases and showcasing their work in interviews at places like Adobe and Autodesk were other standout moments.
We even had the chance to have a few of these successful members share their experience with other uxgo members as alumni at our return offer workshop! (One of the most helpful things our summer internship team said was to have our alumni join in!)
Tempo was so impressed with some of our editor team's work Kevin even offered contentious paid full time & part time opportunities to selected team members after the course ended. Similar to many of our clients before, it is highly likely to earn yourself a permeant spot on a team, as founders respect talent, and understand it is rare to come by! Check out our AI agent team vibing irl with our tempo team at conferences & tempo HQ (Bridging virtual & IRL is something we loved that we will do a lot more at our own UXGO & Design buddies HQ as well!)
We observed some interesting dynamics between the two teams, and notably, even though both teams featured amazing GEN AI leading coaches from Microsoft, & amazon who spent massive dedications! (Shout out to all coaches) here are some insights:
Both teams had their designs utilized, but the AI Agent team’s approach of rapid prototyping and adaptability made their work more immediately implementable—a fantastic case study for future cohorts. Therefor some new ground rules we are setting for future coaches & clients.
We’re beyond excited to see what’s next for Tempo. We believe their AI-powered design tools will revolutionize how designers and builders work in the near future. While we’re no longer accepting applications for partnerships this quarter, we encourage interested parties to apply for future collaborations here.
We also feel great about our overall process delivering high quality AI driven products, we have specialized our own ciruclum including cutting edge AI topics such as OODA loops for many of our HCI masters students to learn & practice with.
If you’re a student eager to dive into an internship like this, applications for our next cohort are open! Learn more and apply here.
Stay tuned for more updates as we gear up for our next batch, featuring project partners from Stripe, Ph.D. doctors, YC alums, Women in Tech leaders, social good accessibility designs, and even top-ranked Product Hunt projects. We can’t wait to share more stories soon!
Over 100+ members became Big Tech alumni last year, with more than 70% of these alumni starting their first interview with us.
